Grief Doesn't Mean You Got It Wrong

Sometimes we make a decision that feels deeply right—and then we cry. We miss the relationship, the home, or the life we chose to leave, and suddenly we start questioning ourselves. Did I make a mistake? Should I go back? I’ve been learning that clarity and grief can exist together. When my marriage ended, I felt relief and an enormous amount of love and sadness. Now, as I recognize it’s time to leave a home that has been my sanctuary, I’m feeling that same combination again. The sadness doesn’t erase what I know. It reminds me that what I’m leaving mattered.

In this episode, I’m exploring how we can honor an ending without making the entire chapter wrong. We grieve more than people and places; we grieve identities, routines, and futures we thought we would have. From my spiritual perspective, love can continue even when a relationship changes form, and that doesn’t mean we have to skip the human feelings. When a wave of grief comes, we can give it room before deciding what it means. I’m carrying this question: What can I lovingly leave behind so I have both hands free to receive what comes next?

Five Key Takeaways:

  • Clarity and sadness can coexist. I can feel relief about an ending and still grieve the love, memories, and hopes connected to it.

  • Missing something isn’t always guidance to return. We can let a wave of grief pass before deciding whether it changes what we know.

  • We grieve more than physical losses. A home, family structure, identity, or imagined future can carry meaning that takes time to release.

  • Spiritual understanding leaves room for human feelings. My belief that love continues doesn’t cancel the pain of missing someone’s physical presence.

  • We can carry the meaning forward. Letting a chapter end doesn’t require us to discard its love, lessons, or beauty.

Reflection and Journaling Prompts

  • What am I actually grieving, and what does that tell me about what mattered?

  • What am I ready to honor without needing to hold on to it?

  • Can I bless what was without requiring it to remain?

  • What can I lovingly leave behind so that I have both hands free to receive what comes next?
